Applying For Your Driving Test

Applying for a Driving Test

The last leg of the journey before you finally get your most awaited driving licence is applying for the driving test and then passing it. Before you hand in your application and count the days until you have to apply all of the things you learned in your driving classes, you must take note of the following things:

  • You need to have held your learner's permit for at least six months or more during the day that you are scheduled to take the driving test.
  • If you insist on taking the driving test regardless of the fact that you have not held your learner's permit for at least six months, the examiner will refuse to conduct to you the examination and your testing fee will also be forfeited. You can reapply for the driving test when you've already reach the six month period.
  • Before you can make use of a vehicle in your driving test, you must be insured to drive the vehicle.
  • You can ask around for driving schools that would be willing to rent out a vehicle that you may use during the day of the driving test.

While all those things are the official requisites before you can apply for a driving test, you also have to keep in mind your personal readiness to sit in through the test. If you feel that you are at level that it competent enough for you to pass the driving test, then you may continue with your decision to sit through one. However, take advantage of driving lessons and pre-tests until you are confident enough with the level of your driving skills before you make a nosedive for the driving test.

The Driving Test Application

There are two ways that you can apply for a driving test. You may apply through the Internet by clicking on this link or you can retrieve the application form for the driving test in your local Garda office, tax office or library.

Remember that you will have to wait for some time before you can sit through the driving test. It is common for applicants to wait for around six to eight weeks depending on the area before actually sitting through a driving test. Also, while you may communicate the area which you want to be tested at, you may not get that specific area. To help you pass your driving test, once you know the definite schedule of your driving test, schedule a pre-test promptly so that you are assured of available slots. Finally, cancellations are not unheard of and it may also be that the date of your driving test is a lot sooner than the one that you expected.
